| If you were preparing to run and cycle across the Jebel Sahra Mountains in South East Morocco where would you go to practice? Pancake-like East Anglia doesn’t exactly spring to mind but that’s just where The Davis Group’s team had to do their training! In April they took part and came fourth in The Sahara Challenge which raised thousands of pounds for The Prince’s Trust.
The Davis Group volunteers went up against seven other teams from the insurance sector to complete the 100km physical challenge and each team had to raise £11,000! The money raised will help disadvantaged young people to get a fresh start in life by way of practical support including training, mentoring and financial assistance.
In the months leading up to the event the team trained hard to prepare for 71km of cycling and 29km of running in testing desert conditions. This hard work and the satisfaction of completing the course seems to have had a lasting impact. Participant Paul Brown said of the event “It was hard work and I’ve got the blisters to prove it but it was worth it to see how we really came together as a team. This has been totally life changing for me and I can’t wait to do it again – Borneo 2008 sounds good!”
The East Anglian insurance broker has been a Patron of The Prince’s Trust since 2005. Julian Barrell, Deputy Commercial Director at The Prince’s Trust, spoke about their input, “Without the unwavering support of companies like The Davis Group, so much of the support we offer to young people would never be possible. The money raised by the challenge will enable The Trust to offer more practical support for young people in East Anglia.”
Well done to them all! If you would like to help the team exceed their £11,000 target please call 01638 782488.
